Mechanics

The skills called mechanics (capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling) are important components of effective writing. While the spelling-checkers found in most word processing programs can point out (if used intelligently) missing letters and other typos, accurate capitalization, punctuation, and grammar depend on applying rules and principles that good writers are expected to know--or be able to find out.
